For many years after closure to passengers Okehampton was left in a state of steady decline, even though part of the building was occupied from time to time.

Fortunately, with the transfer of the line to Meldon Quarry to the ownership of the purchasers of the quarry, and with the involvement of Devon County Council, the station has been splendidly restored and now has a bright future.
